Charity of the Year

At the Wales YFC AGM held in September 2009 it was announced that the Charity of the Year for 2009/10 would be Kidney Wales Foundation. The charity is keen to work with YFC and they have members of staff who are able to come out to talk to clubs about the work that they do.

Remember  - if you raise any money for the Charity please forward it on to Wales YFC, so that a grand total can be calculated at the end of the YFC year.

Challenge Tim

Tim is currently taking part in a challenge set by the Carmarthenshire Federation. Tim and 5 members from Carmarthenshire have been challenged to refrain from shaving or cutting their hair until the Wales YFC Field Day which will be held at Llandovery Market and hosted by the Carmarthenshire Federation on the 10th of April. Prior to the award ceremony Tim John and all of the others taking part will shave off their beards and cut their hair!

Tim's second challenge, set by Anglesey Federation, is to join county representatives in ‘The Great Strait Raft Run' on Sunday 6th June.  The county is hoping to have two rafts competing in the race along the Menai Strait between Felinheli and Menai Bridge, one for the boys and one for the girls.

Eryri Federation challenges Tim to learn Welsh and read out a short speech at their Rally on the 29th May. They have also set two sub-challenges that allows their members to get involved; Tim to have a pillow fight with county officers and any member who's willing to pay for the privilege and to lock him up in wooden stocks whilst members pay to throw wet sponges at him.

Anyone wanting to contribute to the good cause should contact the Wales YFC office or visit www.everydayhero.co.uk/challenge_tim to chip in.

Walk for Life

Every 11 days someone in Wales dies waiting for a transplant. Our chosen charity this year is the Kidney Wales Foundation who organise the organ donation campaign in Wales. Their biggest fundraiser is coming up and we are looking for Young Farmers to get involved, have fun and support them.

The countdown is on to the Kidney Wales Specsavers' Walk for Life. On March 28th communities across Wales will be taking part in the Walk. Participants collect sponsorship from their friends, family and community. Walks can be any length and take any format you want. Kidney Wales is asking Young Farmers to

  • Join a walk in their local community
  • Organise a walk in their area.

Kidney Wales provides lots of support for organisers and participants. You will get t-shirts, sponsorship forms, press support and much more.

This is the charity's most important fundraising event of the year. In addition to organising the organ donation campaign the foundation supports those suffering with kidney failure and disease. Their work has a particular focus on children and their families.
